Karen Brunton, AKBD, Allied ASID
As Senior Interior Designer specializing in Kitchen and Bath Design, Karen brings 13 years of design experience, advanced educational training, and detailed attention to each diverse project while focusing on creative solutions to design challenges. Her design training results in application of the Elements and Principles of design along with NKBA guidelines to transform spaces while referencing selections that are appropriate for individual needs, lifestyles, and budgets.
Karen begins each project by incorporating a thorough preliminary evaluation with detailed CAD drafting, and rendering skills to streamline the design process and enhance visual communication with clients. She utilizes her expertise in space planning, residential design, color theory, and product knowledge to create distinctive environments reflecting the unique personality and taste of each client. Once a design is finalized, Karen continues to consult with her clients to facilitate the selection process, specify materials, and provide guidance or supervision until the project is complete.
Karen has earned a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Science, plus a Rank I with certification and endorsements in Education and School Administration from Western Kentucky University. Following a successful career in education as a teacher, team lead, and Intern Mentor, Karen moved from Kentucky to Colorado with her husband, a Colorado Native, in 1999. Karen’s creative talents led her back to school again in a slightly different direction. She completed a Degree in Interior Design after completing an Internship in Kitchen and Bath Design and a final Capstone Project on Aging in Place. Karen studied to specialize in Kitchen and Bath Design and earned additional certification by the National Kitchen and Bath Association as an Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer (AKBD).
Karen worked in the new home building industry for several years followed by roles as an Independent Designer and a consulting Designer for a kitchen and bath showroom. Karen maintains professional memberships in the National Kitchen and Bath Association and is an Allied Member of the American Society of Interior Designers. She participates in continuing education programs to enhance design knowledge and technological skills. Her belief in the importance of education inspires Karen’s continued involvement with design education. Karen serves as a member of the Arapahoe Community College Interior Design Advisory Committee. She enjoys working with future designers and volunteers as a Capstone Juror for Interior Design student final projects and presentations.
